Mom was born to Heinrich and Julianna Weige on Sept. 27, 1920, in New Leiptzig, Romania/Germany. The family made their way from Romania to Brazil, South America and eventually to New York, via Ellis Island, then to South and North Dakota, arriving in Pasco during the year of 1937. Mom grew up with brothers Christian 'Chris,' Reinhold 'Reiny,' Leslie and sister Ida., Mom married Ralph Hampton, on February 16, 1941. The marriage produced two daughters, Beverly and Nancy. Our parents celebrated just over 55 years of marriage before Dad passed into God's kingdom., We made our home in Pasco on Swieger Road which is now known as Road 76 Mom made sure the yard was full of flowers. Dad sold the farm in 1959 and we moved to Kennewick., For many years Mom worked in the meat dept. of the downtown Pasco Safeway and as check-out clerk at the Gene and Jules Market in East Pasco, retiring from the Kennewick Gene and Jules Market in Kennewick., Mom was caregiver to her mother, her brother Chris and our dad until their deaths. After Dad's passing, Mom became an active member of the Pasco Senior Citizens and Kennewick Eagles. She didn't miss many dances. Her dancing partner was Cal Smith whose company she enjoyed for several years., Mom was the backbone of our family and she will be remembered forever and missed daily. Mom is survived by her daughters, Beverly McKinney-Wardlow (Ron), Nancy Arnold (Lee), Grandson, Don McKinney, Great-Grandson Skylor Bradham McKinney, Granddaughter Lisa McKinney Pogue (Mark), Great-Grandson, Marcus Pogue, and Granddaughter Traci Arnold Sedlacek (Tom). Nieces Ardene Holt Patten (Jay), Julie Weige Yamauchi, Shawna Weige Graham; nephews Gary Pierce (Lois), Kenny Pierce and Les Weige, as well as many extended family., Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Heinrich 'Henry' and Julianna Weige; husband, Ralph; sister Ida Weige Nowlin; brothers Reiny, Chris and Leslie Weige., My sister and I would like to thank Dr. Kohan, his nurse Kathy, Corks Pharmacy, Callaway Gardens, and Lower Columbia Hospice for the attentive care Mom received. |
Albert Leon Belcher, 72, of Snohomish, WA passed away April 2, 2011., He was born December 29, 1938 in Kanawha, WV and spent his childhood and school years in Charleston, WV. He was the son of Herman Sr. and Edith Belcher., Albert moved to Washington around 1959. He married Marie Bohl soon after. He worked for Sound Casket and Collins Casket in Everett as a painter. He then went on to S.A.W. Cabinet Shop in Silvana. He was very talented at painting. After leaving S.A.W he went on to work at Boeing, retiring in 1995 with the "golden handshake." He later took on an extra job at Delta in Snohomish. Albert enjoyed working with people, going to the Casino once in a while for breakfast, always hoping to win the big one., Albert always enjoyed going to Skagit Speedway with his three children. He went quite often in the summer with Candace., He is survived by his wife, Marie; four children and their families, Candace and Richard Horton, Arla and Jeff Yundt, Kevin Belcher and friend Annette. Also Frankie Emunson and Chuck; six grandchildren, Christopher and Kyle Russell, Megan and Travis Horton, Crystal and Holly Klinger, one brother Herman and his wife Shirley, niece's Monica, Maylyn and a nephew Matt. He leaves numerous relatives and friends in West Virginia, too many to list., He was preceded in death by his father, Herman, and mother, Edith, and two infant sisters., We would like to give a special thanks to our good friends Sherman and Judy Olson for all their special help and care, also the doctors and nurses at Providence Oncology and to Hospice. Alfonso M. OCAMPO Born November 22, 1939 in Pampanga, Philippines; died April 12, 2011 in Seattle. He is survived by his loving wife, Eva; his children, Suzette Manuel (Joel) and Alfonso Ocampo Jr. (Marilyn); and many other relatives. Alfonso loved to sing and dance. He was a hard working and a very determined man who never gave up on his hopes and dreams. Faith and family came first to Alfonso, and he put himself in God's hands and accepted his fate, only after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Beverly Jean (Anderson) Morrow, 82, a lifetime resident of Skagit County, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood, where she spent her last year., Jean was born in Mount Vernon December 9, 1928 to Bertha (Solseth) and Harry E Anderson., She attended Conway Grade School and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1946., On June 10, 1947 she married the love of her life, Donald Sanford Morrow of Burlington. They eloped marrying on the same day that Don's parents (John Donald Morrow and Ida Belle Sanford) celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. This has become a family tradition having a daughter and granddaughter marry on the same date., Jean and Don lived in Avon for 25 years where they had a chicken farm and Jean worked at the National Bank of Commerce. Barbara Gene Crawford Sawyer, born May 19, 1935, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2011 at her home in Snohomish, WA with family by her side., Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren Prescott; her parents; and a younger brother., Barbara is survived by her husband, Ted Sawyer, of 26 years; her children, Warren Prescott, Craig Prescott, Linda Barnes (Ron), Terry Prescott (Kim) and Kevin Prescott (Jamie); 26 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; along with four brothers and one sister., Barbara was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings in the church: a den mother with cub scouting, Relief Society President, Primary teacher and Missionary as well as many other callings. One of her greatest joys was serving as a missionary from January 2010 to March 2011 at the Mukilteo Bishop's Storehouse., Barbara had many gifts, talents, and passions. She had an incredible talent with flowers and enjoyed arranging them as well as making baby sock corsages with them. She loved doing genealogy and family history. Barbara was a caterer and catered weddings and other events for over 40 years. She enjoyed learning and gaining knowledge, and then sharing it with others to help them. Barbara enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. She especially loved working in her "celestial garden" that she affectionately referred to as the "C Garden". Barbara loved to travel. She spent time traveling to see her children and grandchildren as well as traveling with her family, taking in the sights and visiting LDS Temples., Barbara's greatest gift and passion was giving love and service to the Lord and her family. She loved them with all her heart. Barbara Jean Drake, 71, passed away quietly on Monday morning, April 11, 2011, in Everett, WA., She was born to Luticia and Walter Hoggett on February 17, 1940 in Nashville, TN. She graduated from Pearl High School and Tennessee State University (Nashville, TN). Passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2011, with Rosie, his loving wife of 58 years and his family, by his side. Many dear family and friends came to visit him at home prior to his passing away., Bill was born in Loon Lake on March 6, 1934 to Darrell and Elsie, joining his sisters Doris and Lucille. Bill met his lifelong sweetheart, Rosie, at Deer Park High School and they wed on August 30, 1952. Bill and Rosie were blessed with three sons, Billy, Gordy and Marty and a daughter, Nancy. They all worked together on the family farm and sawmill. Bill considered raising his children his foremost accomplishment. He treasured time together at family meals and took pleasure in working in the family businesses with his wife and children. He loved to coach his kids in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball., Bill and Rosie enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling, gardening and especially grandparenting. He leaves behind 17 well-loved grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as two precious pets, Morrey and Rufus., Family and friends can honor Bill's memory and bless Rosie and the children by attending his memorial Saturday, April 16, at 2:00 at Springdale Community Church, on Morton and Main Street. Clifford "HOP" Edward Hoeppel died peacefully at his home in Sedro-Woolley on March 24th, 2011. He was 89 years old., Hop was born on November 6, 1921 in Bakersfield CA., In 1947 he married Lois Louise James, she predeceased him in 2007., He flew PBY's in the US Navy patrol squadron 72 on aircraft carriers in the south pacific theater in WWII and ended his working days as a pilot for first Western & then Delta Airlines. Prior to his retirement he and Louise bought property in Hannah Heights and built their retirement home. They lived on San Juan Island for over 30 years until he moved to Sedro-Woolley in 2008 where he made numerous friends & ended his days with laughter., He is survived by his step-daughter, Cheri Maust of Friday Harbor., His life will be celebrated on April 16th at 1:30 pm at his home located at 22784 Rallye Lane, Sedro-Woolley, WA. Calvin George ROBINSON III Calvin George Robinson III was born in Whittier, California November 08, 1988. Calvin attended the Seed of Abraham (SOA) Pentecostal Church in Renton, Wash. Calvin was a Painter, and a Book Salesman that Traveled throughout the United States. He was a pleasant person and made quick friends with an easy going personality. He was blessed with the unique kind of uplifting and genuine joyful presence that would light up the social environment of the room when he walked in. Calvin was a kind loving son, and a great brother that wanted to provide positive guidance to his brothers and sisters. He loved his Grandparents and traveled with them extensively to variouscities and Church events in association with their Evangelistic Ministries. A monumental time in Calvin's life was when he met a youth on a bridge ready to jump over and he stopped him from taking his own life. Calvin was also the primary source of initially finding subsequently saving the life of his Grandmother the Late Jean M. Robinson when she suffered and survived a Brain Aneurism in 1996. Calvin attended a private Christian Elementary school in Everett, Olympic View Middle School in Mukilteo, Mariner High School in Everett and Kamiak High School in Mukilteo. Calvin prayed the Prayer of Salvation to the Lord Jesus many times and recommitted his life to the Lord the day before his final Homegoing. Calvin is survived by his Father Calvin G. Carl Edward Jussel Carl Edward Jussel passed away April 12, 2011 from complications of Parkinsons Disease. He was born May 21, 1933 in Seattle to Joseph & Alice (Murray) Jussel & graduated from Bellingham High School, class of 1951. He attended WWCE (WWU) and in 1952 joined the armed forces which included serving two years in Okinawa. In 1956 he joined his father at Jussel Construction and remained there as owner/operator until 1995 when he retired due to medical reasons. He married Elsie Mae Horgdal in Blaine June 15, 1957. Carl enjoyed traveling, having a pet cat & working on and running any kind of equipment. Carl was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 86 and a 55 year member of International Union of Operating Engineers. On Monday, April 4, 2011, we lost our "Uncle Sam". Charlie was born April 16, 1946 to Stanley and Alice Richards of Thomaston, ME. He grew up in Thomaston and joined the USAF, serving in Viet Nam., Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leslie of ME; and half-brothers, Stanley and Enselmo of NY., He is survived by sister, Donna of Friendship, ME; many cousins, neices, nephews, hundreds of friends and Charlie's special angel, Angie Nicholson of Arlington, WA., Charlie was very involved with the Sno-King Vietnam, group and was "Uncle Sam" to thousands of people over the last two decades. Charlotte Anne Bushnell, 85, of Liberty Lake, Washington (formerly of the Silver Valley) passed away April 11, 2011 at Hospice of Spokane. She is now with her loving husband Wayne, in the presence of God. Charlotte was born February 9, 1926 in Milaca, Minnesota; she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Heisler. The family moved a short time later to Fargo, North Dakota, where she grew up in a loving home with her three sisters and three brothers. Charlotte graduated and went on to college at Moorehead State University, where she majored in music. After making a few records as a trio with a few of her close friends, they decided to head West and pursue teaching careers. They made it as far as Kellogg, Idaho, where they were offered teaching jobs. In no time, they came to love this small mining community., It was in Kellogg, where she met her life partner Wayne Bushnell, a hard working maintenance mechanic and welder at the Bunker Hill Company. They were married June 29, 1949 in Fargo, North Dakota, which was the start of a fifty-one year life together. They had four children, two girls and two boys, who they spent their lives caring and providing a warm, and loving Christian home. Charlotte took time off from her teaching career while her children were young, but returned later and completed seventeen years in the Kellogg School District; the final years as a seventh grade language arts teacher., Charlotte continued her teaching and love for music by singing at St. Rita's Catholic Church in the choir and eventually directing the choir in her later years. Over her many years in Kellogg, she sang in many weddings, funerals and church events. Charlotte was a beautiful soloist and loved to share her music with others. Charlotte and Wayne devoted a great deal of time and effort to the Catholic Church and served in many capacities during their time in Kellogg. They were also very open with any gathering in God's name and were involved and active whenever two or more were gathered in his name and they could muster an invitation. Charlotte was a fifty year plus member and very active in the Catholic Daughters, where she held numerous local and state offices; she was also a member of the Altar Society., Charlotte is survived by four children Becky Lockard of Monroe, Washington, Terry Bushnell and wife Cathe of Spokane, Washington, Danny Bushnell of Vancouver, Washington and Patti Paulsen and her husband Ron of Thompson Falls, Montana; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; one sister Jan Tobin of Mount Vernon, Washington; Charlotte also has a host of loving and special relatives from the Bushnell and Heisler families, she loved and cared for. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents Joe and Mary and her sisters and brothers, Dorinne, Ione, Tom, Ed and Joseph., Rosary services will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011, at 5:30 P.M. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel of Kellogg, Idaho with Father Tom Loucks officiating. David Allen Rogers was born October 14,1957, in Inglewood, California, and passed away in Bellingham on April 2011. He is survived by his parents, Cecil and Joyce Rogers of Bellingham, Washington. He has two sisters, Jami and Ron McMillan of Lynden, Washington, and Caryn and James Waters of Anderson, California. In 1971, the family moved to Bellingham where he graduated from Meridian High School in 1975. In 1976, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska. David joined them and spent some time there, and all ended up back in Bellingham from where they had left ten years earlier. We all loved David very much and he will be so missed. Our hearts hurt with this loss, but we know he is free and is with our Lord, where there is no sorrow or pain. We want to thank all of you who were encouragers to him in his life. Dewayne Anthony BELL Mr. Bell was born on September 18, 1937 and passed away on April 9, 2011. He was 73 years old. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Alfreda Jurewicz Bell; their children Elizabeth, Carolyn, James, John, and Matthew; their spouses and 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Byron Bell; and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Sophie Creely Bell, and his sister, Katherine Bell Enke. He spent his career of 37 years with Frisco and Burlington Northern SantaFe Railroads. After he retired, he spent happy times with his dog, Scooter, fishing, gardening, and caring for horses at the family farm. Donald Leroy Jagla, 72, a lifelong resident of Wenatchee, WA, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011, while hunting in Hilo, HI. Don was born December 5, 1938, in Wenatchee to Leonard and Evelyn (Manning) Jagla. He was one of five sons and three daughters. Don grew up on Wenatchee Heights and began his education in 1943, when he was only four years old. |
Donald Victor BARKER Age 64, of Sammamish. Died in his sleep at his home on April 9, 2011, six days after his 40th wedding anniversary, Don is survived by his wife, Anne, his sons Jason (Kathleen), of Hoboken, N.J., and Michael, of Sammamish and Michael's son Leland. Other surviving family members include Don's brothers, James and Curtis, and his sisters, Laurel and Carolyn. Don was predeceased by his mother and father, Margaret and Curtis Ambrose Barker, and by his twin brother Richard. Born on February 15, 1947, Don graduated from Shorecrest High school and the University of Washington. He served in the United States Navy. Don's career included building and shopping center management, commercial real estate and, ultimately, commercial property development. For the past several years, he has been a vice president of store development for Powell Development Co. A member of the Knights of Columbus, Don was an active parishioner at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Don was also a founder of Alpha Home, Richard's residence in his adult life. Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Mary Queen of Peace Parish Church, 1121 228th Ave. S.E. in Sammamish. Donna Kay Bostwick passed away on March 29, 2011, in Spokane, WA. She was born in Lincoln, NE on December 7, 1940, and moved to Chelan, WA as a young child. She attended kindergarten through 12th grade in Chelan and graduated in 1958. From there, she attended and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She married in 1960, and had two children, Clay and Christina. In 1997, she married Dr. Dwight Bostwick. |
Donna Lee (Wilkerson) Pauley died on Friday, April 8, 2011. She was the beloved wife of Ralph E. Pauley who preceded her in death. Their gravestone is engraved with "Together Forever" which epitomizes their 59 years of marriage. Donna spent her life focusing on her family. They were the center of her universe. She spent years caring for a "handsome young army man." She wrote letters to him everyday for two years, six months, and three days as he spent time in occupied Germany and cared for him many other years, as they grew old together. She was the mother of two, Gayle D. Pauley - her daughter and Glenn A. Pauley - her son. She modeled the true behavior of a caring, loving mother and gave each of her children a love of family. She was the mother-in-law to Rosann and recognized John as part of her daughter's life. She was the grandmother of three, wonderful, talented grandchildren. Daniel, who learned from her the importance of keeping a promise; Vivian who learned that women should have a mind of their own and a heart to give to others; and Ray, who learned that words are not always needed to convey strength of character. She considered Patty Hoff as her Bellingham daughter, and thought of her family as if they were her own. She has a brother, Bill, and dear sister-in-law, Annette, still in Texas as well as many loved nephews and nieces. She was also the "BAND MOM" and touched hundreds of student's lives as they played in concerts, marched in parades; a teacher for students who learned English, checked out books, learned reading and mathematics in her classroom. She always said that she was a consumer of music - she listened as Ralph's bands played but she was also a musician in her own right, as she sang in her school choirs at White Deer High School and at Sul Ross College. But, most importantly, she always sang with her children, riding the millions of miles driving across Texas to get to family gatherings and ultimately on the move to Washington. Celebration of her life will be held on April 23, 2011, at 2 PM, at Moles Greenacres Funeral Home, followed by a gathering at the family home. She loved roses and birds and the family suggests that you feed the birds or plant a rosebush in her honor. Jean Nesbitt (86) passed away on April 9, 2011 at Hospice House of Spokane due to stroke complications. She was born in Tacoma on September 8, 1924 to James A. and Doris (Cooper) Frace. She moved to Spokane at 14. She was a long-time waitress at Golden Fork Restaurant in Diamond Bowl., Jean raised six children with her husband Donald E. Nesbitt, to whom she was married for more than 53 years. She loved her family and greatly enjoyed the large family gatherings. She enjoyed playing Bingo and was a life-long "Golden" Eagle Lodge member; she also enjoyed bowling, vacations at the lake and trips to Reno., She is preceded in death by her husband Donald E., and son Michael Shuey. She is survived by her sister, Barbara "Timmy" (Myron) Pflugrad, sons Don (Val) and David (Chris), daughters Barbara (John) Villani, Bonnie (Gary) Emch and Terri (Clare) Nelson with 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nephews and nieces., Jean will be remembered for her sense of humor and loving nature. She was a sociable, gregarious woman and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Peacefully passed away on April 1st , 2011 in Spokane Valley, WA. She was born to her Italian immigrant father (Peter Bicchieri) and mother (Ruby Hoskins) on May 4th, 1923 in Gig Harbor, WA. Through the years she enjoyed traveling, golfing, music, any bargain, and was an avid quilter. She belonged for years to "Piece In The Valley Quilters" at St Joseph Catholic Church in Otis Orchards. She is preceded in death by her son, Dick Davis (2009), and her beloved husband of 56 years Lee Emerson (2009). She leaves behind her son, Tom (Vicki) Davis of Spokane, WA; daughters, Lynette (Jim) Pankey of Portsmouth, RI, and Tina (Randy) Smith of Spokane, WA; daughter-in-law Vickie Davis of Coeur d'Alene, ID; grandsons, Tom Davis Jr. (Krissy) of Arlington, WA, Todd Davis of Spokane, WA, David Pankey of Portsmouth, RI, and Ben Hawkins of Spokane, WA; granddaughters, Deanna (Rob) Rector of Spokane, WA, Jennifer (Travis) Nielsen of Spokane, WA, Jaime and Nicole Pankey of Portsmouth, RI.; and ten great-grandchildren. Eleaner Larraine Magnussen, cherished Mother, Grand-mother, Great- Grandmother, and friend to many, passed safely into the arms of our Lord on March 28, 2011. She will be dearly missed by her children, Lynn Witheford (Peter), Leslie Weil (J. Martin), Rick Magnussen (Sally), and Mark Magnussen, as well as her eight grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren and numerous friends and caregivers., Eleaner was warm, sensitive, compassionate, and caring. Raising her family was her priority, but she also worked side by side with her husband Frederick (1921-2006) in his many businesses. Animals also held a special part of Eleaner's heart, and she had quite a menagerie of pets throughout her life. An avid gardener, Eleaner spent many hours in her beautiful yard tending to her Rose Garden. Enid was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan on March 6, 1925 to parents Ethel & Harry Maxfield. She lived in the Vancouver area, moved to Bellingham in 1975, and returned to Abbotsford, B.C. in 2008. She loved to play golf, go bowling, and play cards with her friends. She especially loved to play games with her grandchildren and spend time with her family. She passed away in Abbotsford on April 2nd, 2011 at age 86, with family by her side. Lifetime Whatcom County resident Erna Jansen passed away peacefully in her home April 6, 2011. She was born on Feb. 18, 1928 into a large dairy farm family and often talked about her chores and her love for the smell of fresh hay. Erna worked alongside her parents Irene and Carl Muenscher and her siblings Louise, Eleanor, Margie, Carl, and Bob. Erna attended Lynden High School and Bellingham Business School where she studied bookkeeping and accounting. Erna was married to Al Jansen for 22 years. Erna had a strong work ethic and was an active force and co-owner in their landscape construction business. She leaves three children, Ann, Skip, and Mary and nine grandchildren with great memories of her love for traveling, cooking, gardening, and hunting for berries, morel mushrooms, crab, and agates. You could tell the season by what pie she was baking. The beach parties at her cabin at Birch Bay and family holiday gatherings were some of her greatest joys, but most of all she was devoted to her kids and grandkids, who will miss her but treasure their memories. Ernestine "Ernie" (Swann) Hill passed away Monday, March 22, 2011, due to complications of a stroke. She was 83. Born October 27, 1927, in Weed, CA, Ernestine and her brothers moved with their parents, Ernest and Ethel (Monk) Swann, to Washington state in the early 1930's. In 1945, Ernestine graduated from Ferndale High School. That same year she met Jack Hill. They married in 1946 and had three children, daughters Janet and Coleen (Kathy) and son Dana. In 1982 Ernestine opened 'Lil School Day Care. She ran the business out of her home until the end of 1994, at which time she retired. Ernie was an avid reader and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Ferndale. She enjoyed history and travel and loved her friends and extended family. Little children always brought an extra sparkle to her eyes. Ernestine was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her parents and five brothers all preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children; three granddaughters, Stacy, Autumn and Amanda; two great grandsons, Cain and Damion; numerous nieces and nephews; extended "family"; and many friends. A private graveside service will be held for family, and a memorial service for all wishing to attend will be at First Baptist Church in Ferndale on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 2 PM. Our precious angel, Gavin Dustin Milo O'Bryant, left us to go play in Heaven on April 8, 2011., Born in Kirkland, WA on March 20, 2006; bringing nothing but joy and love into the world from that very first moment. Gavin was a fearless, adventurous, perfect little boy with a contagious laugh and a smile and dimples no one could ever say no to! He loved his super heroes, lions, video games and the color green. Even at such a young age he was gifted on the basketball court. When he was particularly proud of a move out on the court, out of nowhere, he would stop everything and give his parents a "salute". He was entertaining in so many ways, especially with his signature dance moves. Gavin wanted to be a police officer when he grew up, just like his daddy., Gavin is preceded in death by grandfathers, Herbert O'Bryant and David Peterman; and uncle, Dustin Henthorn. We take comfort in knowing these angels were waiting for our boy with loving arms., Although Gavin was only with us for a short time, he touched so many lives. George E. Ray (Jack) was born in Waverly, WA on June 15, 1917 to George and Elizabeth (Rakestraw) Ray. His first eight years were spent helping on his parent's farm until his father died and the family then relocated to Spokane. In Spokane he attended Logan Elementary and North Central High School where he graduated in 1937. During his high school years he excelled at basketball which became a hobby that followed him into adult years as he played Commercial League basketball. It was also at N.C. High School where he met and began dating the love of his life, Laurine Grimmer. After high school he worked at Barclay Studios until he entered into the, in 1941. Jack was a part of the Signal Corp attached to the Air Corp and served state side and in Agra, India until his discharge in 1945. On leave from Fort Lewis in 1942, George and Laurine were married. After being discharged he worked for the U.S. Post Office and was a mail carrier in Spokane for 32 years, retiring in 1977. During his postal career he also worked at Grimmer Transfer and Storage Company. Jack was a skilled carpenter and used his ability to purchase four lots and build three homes, including one for his in-laws. He built the family home where he and Laurine resided the remainder of their lives. Jack loved to camp and fish with friends and family. He enjoyed bowling in his retirement years and participated in numerous leagues. Jack's craftsman skills blessed many and his talents were always in need. His spot on sense of humor, easy going spirit and handmade gifts will be missed but treasured always. He is survived by his children: Diana (Art) DeFelice of Spokane, and George W. (Barbara) Ray of Kennewick WA, grandchildren Kelli Clark, Aaron Clark, Gavin DeFelice, Christi DeFelice and Lauren DeFelice along with numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria L. JONES Gloria L. Jones, age 89, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband David H. Jones. Gloria is survived by her children, Judy, Larry, Rick and Bob; grandchildren, Tim, Brian, Jason and Katie and many great-grandchildren. Gloria was truly loved and will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Bethany at Silverlake for taking such good care of Gloria. She really loved the staff and considered the facility her home. There will be a private family memorial service. |
Gregory (Greg) GARDNER 'Our relief from his suffering having ended remains unmatched by the pain of his absence" Gregory Dean Gardner, 60, slipped away too soon on March 10, 2011 after challenging cancer for more than 5 years. Held closely by his sister, Susan, dear friends and his Sally Cat, he joined his deceased parents, Robert and Aline Gardner, who embrace him with loving arms. Despite 25 years in San Diego, Greg's heart remained attached to his birthplace - Queen Anne Hill. He is a proud alumna of John Hay (favorite teacher - Miss Bell) and McClure Jr. High (most hated class - Woodshop). On to Queen Anne H.S. where sports bonded many 1969 grads into a still-active alumni to this day. Most continued to the U. of Washington where Greg pursed a degree in Justice and Society, minor in Psychology, affiliated with Phi Delta Theta fraternity. His University years further deepened friendships and his reverence for Husky football, Jim Owens and 2-platoon players of the 1950's and 60's. He settled in San Diego in 1985 working within the Criminal Justice system, i.e, Case Manager for federal parolees, individual and group Drug and Alcohol Counselor, and Pre-Sentence Investigator for Judges. His calm demeanor also drew him into arbitration and training. A bachelor, he had 'toys'...'66 Mustang, sports memorabilia, collectible LIFE magazines from '40's,' 50's,60's; unusual Hawaiian shirts and restored baseball jerseys - i.e., Willie Mays, whose integrity on/off the field was his inspiration in life. But Greg's real treasures were his life-long friendships and his wicked wit, written and spoken. How lucky to be a recipient of both. Love for childhood friends and family was fierce, unbroken. Laugh-filled phone calls, savored postcards, unexpected sports gifts are legendary - sadly missed now. Behind his easy smile and laconic speed was a man who 'showed' up to comfort, to celebrate, to share. John Varga, Jim Eicher, Marc & Greg Pease, Smitty, Mike O, Patrick, Larry Phillips were among his 'brothers'. His adoring sister, close 'brothers', and special women friends sustained him during his journey with cancer, having also taken his father in 2005. Never complaining, he took every option to extend his life; his suffering was unspeakable at times but he wanted to enjoy our company another day. He is survived by his heartbroken sister, Susan Gardner Lucier, and her partner, Walt; Sally Cat, the boss of his home....and many loving Uncles, Aunts and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Aline, and by high school classmate and college roommate, Mike Arch (April 5, 2010). Ron Ballough passed away unexpectedly at home in Edmonds, WA on April 8, 2011., Ron was born in California November 21, 1937, and moved to Seattle in 1943 with his mother and brother. Ron graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1955, and met his wife Sharon at the Maple Leaf Baptist Church in 1961. Ron and Sharon married in 1962, and had two daughters., Ron graduated from the, in 1959 with a BA in Business Administration, which he put to use in a long career as an accountant. Ron was a Senior Financial Analyst for Boeing Aerospace Finance and was the Assistant Controller for Western Washington University in Bellingham. After obtaining his CPA certification, Ron started his own tax and accounting business in 1982, which he continued for the rest of his life., In his spare time, Ron enjoyed photographing train stations and ghost towns. They migrated from Oklahoma to Washington during WWII, where she graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma., Jan was married to Chuck, the love of her life for over 50 years. They have two daughters and five granddaughters. She was full of life and energy and an avid tennis player and golfer. She and Chuck belonged to several country clubs throughout their life together., Jan was very involved in her community; Junior Women's Club of Lakewood (JWCL), Children's Orthopedic Guild as well as Miss Tri-Cities Pageants. In the 1960s, JWCL named her Woman of the Year for her achievements., In the past few weeks we've discovered there are many people who call Jan their best friend. She never met a stranger. She was known for her joy and zest for life and she shared that with everyone she met. |

The family moved to Seattle, where he was raised, attended school, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947., He married Antonnia Elaine Hey on December 18, 1965 in Chehalis, WA., He received his Bachelor's Degree in Education at Western Washington University, Master's in Education Administration at Seattle University, Master's in General Administration at Stanford University, and Doctorate in Education Administration at the, . From 1953-1983 he worked in the Seattle Public Schools as a Science Department Chairman, Vice Principal, Negotiations/ Staff Relations, and District Hearing Officer., At Blaine and Thompson Junior High Schools, he planned, prepared and hosted a half-hour weekly science program, "Science is Fun" for junior high school students on Channel 9 TV for two years. In 1956, he was a Fulbright Exchange Teacher to England in Scunthorpe, England. During his residency in England, he was invited to Buckingham Palace for a luncheon reception with The Queen Mother. Upon retiring from Seattle Public Schools, he worked for Toni Barber Travel, Inc. as an accountant for 16 years., His wife, Toni, and he traveled extensively to different countries in the world. He especially enjoyed the cruise trips., He joined the U.S., in 1949, and served in the reserves until 1978, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Joseph MOONEY Joe Mooney was born in Butte,MT, on May 17, 1943, to Anne (Myers) and Thomas Joseph Mooney. He passed away in Seattle on April 8, 2011. He married Kay (Crotty) on September 10, 1966. Joe began his 30 year career atthe Seattle Post-Intelligencer on March 21, 1967. He served alternately as a sportswriter, member of the editorial board, columnist, and general assignment reporter. Joe is survived by his wife Kay of 44 years, his children Matt, Zack and Jatheen Mooney, and Beth Mulligan (Mike), his grandchildren Kathleen and Reilly Mulligan, and he-wished- she-were-his-daughter Jeong Eun Kim. Our beloved son and brother passed into God's hands on April 7, 2011. Joe had multiple treatments for brain cancer starting in 1983. He was born in Providence, RI on June 14, 1951. He moved to Spokane with his family at age three, attended Lincoln Heights Elementary School, Ferris High School and graduated with an AAS degree from Spokane Community College. Joe worked at a variety of jobs over the years; his last position was at Portland Meadows Race Track, as a Maintenance technician working with and around the horses he thoroughly enjoyed., Joe's many interests included painting, going to auctions and garage sales and all sports. Hockey and horse racing were his favorite sports. He played Recreational League hockey as a young adult and Park League Baseball as a youth. He could be found on any weekend watching a favorite game. He enjoyed playing with the neighborhood children or simply watching them at play with their great imagination. He loved animals and enjoyed his pets, both dogs and cats., He moved to Vancouver, WA in the 1970's and later to Snohomish, WA where he lived for more than twenty years before returning to Spokane in 2008., Joe is survived by his mother, Shirley Higgin of Spokane and his brother, Scott Higgin of Spokane Valley, Scott's fiancé, Carol Rios; his aunts Joyce Harris (Raymond), Gail Dickson (Kirk) of Spokane Valley, and Patricia Winkleman (Murry) of Sarasota, FL. His many cousins live throughout the country. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter; grandparents, Joseph and Elsie Higgin of Narragansett, RI and Harold and Hazel Kirk of Spokane, WA; aunt Winifred Whaley of Ocala, FL; aunt Dorothy Kaegi (Bernard deceased) of Medina, Ohio., Joe's courage and determination will be remembered by everyone who knew him. Josie passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 10 surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 16, 1931 in Troy, Texas to Lee and Mary Bosmans. She married Thomas Larson on November 14, 1959. Over their 51 1/2 years of marriage, they traveled throughout the country with Tom's Air Force career settling in Lynden in 1977. Josie worked at Puget Power until she retired in 1993. Late that year they moved to Puyallup to be close to grandchildren. During retirement, she took up oil painting becoming a wonderful artist. Josie was our angel on earth, lovingly touching the lives of all that had the good fortune of knowing her. We find some solace in knowing our angel is smiling down upon us from heaven and how fitting it was for her to pass through heaven's gates on a Sunday. She is survived by her loving husband, Tom, 4 children; Tammy (Reed) Zulauf of Puyallup, Terri (Sean) Bradley of Anchorage, Alaska, Carl (Erin) Larson of Federal Way, and Bryan Larson of Anchorage, Alaska, her cherished 8 grandchildren; Stefanie and Kellie Zulauf, Jordan and Sean Bradley, Shelby, Kylee, Thomas and Landon Larson, and many more loving family members and friends. Juditha S. Terrado LAIGO July 9, 1960 ~ April 9, 2011 Judy Terrado Laigo was born in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, on July 9th, 1960, to Miguel and Cresencia Terrado. In 1975, she moved to Oak Harbor, Washington, and then to Long Island, New York, where she lived with her aunt, and graduated from Sachem High School in 1979. She enrolled at Seattle University in the fall of 1979, where she met her future husband, Adrian Laigo. They married in 1982. Son, Tylor, was born in 1983, followed by daughter, Alliette, in 1985, and Rafael, in 1990. As a busy working mother, Judy advanced to the position of Vice President with Bank of America, before choosing to be a stay at home mother, cultivating her interests in cooking, gardening, traveling and skiing. Judy possessed a contagious spirit of adventure, creativity, and a natural mechanical inclination. She engrossed herself in the reading genre of fantasy and sci-fi, as was reflected in the names of her beloved dogs, Sirius and Hermione, both Harry Potter characters. Despite ongoing treatment for ovarian cancer, Judy never limited herself and continued to live life fully. She loved hosting family gatherings, traveling, and taking up new recreation in golf, and motorcycling with her husband, Adrian. Warm and generous to the end, she will be missed tremendously. Judy is survived by her parents, husband, children and brothers, Lito (So'o), Mike, Milko and Anthony (Clarisa). Rosary service - Friday 4/15 at 7:00 p.m. at Bonney Watson Funeral Home on Broadway. Judy Ann (Bourassa) Andrews, 67, of Vancouver, WA, passed away on April 5, 2011 from cancer., Judy was the beloved mother, "nana", and friend to so many, most importantly to her sons, Darin, David (Maria), Drake (Amber), and Doug (Nicole) Pilcher; as well as fourteen grandchildren. She also leaves behind special "daughters", Jeri Fontyn, Cindi McNichols, Patti Beaudoin, Jodi Morgan and Deanna Glotfelty; and special "son", Les Norton Jr. She will be missed by longtime friends and music partners, Mickey LeGerrette and Marilyn "Pepe" Adler; and her band-mates in the Peptones., Judy held treasured memories of her musical career traveling the world, but her true heart's treasure was her grandchildren. Judy passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, April 5, 2011, after a two month battle with a sudden and rare disease. She fought very hard to recover, however, one problem kept leading to another until the mountain was just too high to climb any more. She is now resting peacefully in the arms of God and smiling down on the rest of us here on earth. Her infectious smile and kind heart will be missed by so many. |
Our Justin was born December 24, 1971 and left us in a tragic accident April 9, 2011. Justin is survived by his beloved son, Johnathan, his father, Les Gardner, his godfather, Jeff and Jeff's wife, Jane, his adopted family, Judy Butler, Stacy, Ian and Michael Butler. His brother, Zachary, Joshua, Jesse, and Joey Gardner, as well as friends, Tina and Betsy, Jerry Fiddler, Blob Glaza, and many, many, other people who loved him and who he loved in return., Justin spent most of his life in Spokane; he also lived in Sandpoint, ID and lately in Newport. Justin went to Grant elementary school and the school for the deaf and blind in Gooding, ID. ANDERSEN, Franklyn Dayle "Andy", On April 11, 2011, Andy passed away unexpectedly at his home in Spokane. Andy was born on April 18, 1933 in Arlington, NE, joined the, in 1950 and was commissioned in 1963 after attending, and receiving his BS in Electrical Engineering and an MA in Mathematics. He served on the USS Dale, the USS Topeka, the USS Newport News with the 7th Fleet staff during the Viet Nam conflict and in Da Nang during the bombing of Ton Sanut. He retired in Boston, MA in 1976 and relocated to Spokane. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Arlene, five children: Alan Andersen; Krista Andersen, Anne McCrory (Paul), Dayle Andersen (Anita), and Eric Andersen (Shannon), twelve grandchildren: Megan, Miranda, Tyler, Megan, Katie, Lexie, Bryce, Logan, Sydney, Chloe, Halle, and Millie, and is survived by three sisters, Lois Koglin (Larry), Betty Guy (Warner), Laura Lyles (Bill) and one Brother Doyle (Fanny), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Stephanie. His family in Spokane included Betty and George Farmer and their four children. After marrying David LePage she moved to his farm north of Pasco. Later, after selling their farm, David and Lynne moved to St. Maries, ID,where they purchased and operated Fort Hemenway Manor Bed and Breakfast for ten years., Later, Lynne and her family moved to Worley, ID, where they started a tree nursery. Lynne also cleaned houses for additional income., She taught Sunday school at the St. Maries Nazarene Church and studied the Bible for years with 'Bible Study Fellowship' in Coeur d'Alene, ID., Lynne was a lifetime member of the Grange. She was born Lena Francis Jacobsen on February 20, 1921, to Momme and Mauley Jacobsen in Myrtle Point, OR, where she grew up until the family moved to a ranch up in Chewelekin. Spending the balance of her life in the Okanogan Valley, she finished formal schooling and began working at whatever was to be done - haying, animal husbandry, working in orchards... and she started dating Ben Lee Howe until they married on August 6, 1940. |
After thirty years, to the day, Dorothy Soper was finally reunited with the love of her life. Les Soper, 89, a life long resident of Marysville, WA passed away quickly and peacefully on April 9, 2011 with his loving family by his side. He was born in the family home at Soper Hill Road on January 13, 1922 and was the son of Charles and Grace Soper., He grew up learning a rock solid work ethic and at the age of 14 drove the school bus for Marysville School as the last student on the route. He also worked with his father at the family mill and shingle business, which was located at Kruse Junction in north Marysville., Les joined the Navy during, as a Seaman First Class and served on the USS Petrof Bay as a member of the gun crew. During his service he helped make naval history in the South Pacific theater and participated in several famous battles including the landings of Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the second battle of the Philippines where the Petrof Bay barely escaped four suicide planes and several torpedo attacks. The ship remained the only escort carrier engaged in the battles to emerge unscathed., Les returned to Washington and met Dorothy Olson in a malt shop where she worked in Yakima during his training trips to the area. They started dating, eventually married in 1946 and shortly thereafter started a family., After the war Les worked for several local businesses before opening Les Soper Chevron in 1954 on the corner of 3rd and State in Marysville, and also drove a tow truck at night for Hammerly's Towing. In the early 1960's he moved the station to Grove and State and concurrently opened Soper Towing, which he owned and operated until retirement at the spry age of 82. He was known as an honest and hard working businessman, fixer of anything, loyal and generous friend and loving family man., Throughout life Les enjoyed the Annual Marysville Strawberry Parade as well as traveling to Montana and other local destinations in his Winnebago club, the San Juanderers. His passion in life and favorite time of year was the fall elk hunting season. He began the tradition in 1948 with his father and it has continued to present day with over sixty family members and friends traveling to the same camping site to hike and hunt the same draws as those who came before them. Those who knew Les knew him as a pioneer of Marysville, an icon in the community and an ElkDuck legend., Les is survived by his three children and their families, Leon and Leslie Soper, Linda and Tom St. Onge, and Patti and Dennis Roodzant; eight grandchildren, Aaron, Jessie, Anna, Charlie, Leon, Roger, Kaitlin and Vance; and three great- grandchildren, Novalee, Andrew and Lauren., He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Grace; his wife, Dorothy; brother, Neil; and sister, Norma., Thank you to Pat Hartman and the aides at Compassionate Care in Marysville, Dory, Brenda, Pam and Nicole. LIEBEL, Lester N., Of Pullman, WA passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 in the Enhanced Care Unit at Bishop Place in Pullman where he has recently made his home. Lester was born November 17, 1920 in Kennewick, WA to Henry and Alta Mae (Burris) Liebel. Growing up in Kennewick, Lester was a graduate of Kennewick High School in 1939 where he was active in track and basketball, was president of the F.F.A. Chapter and later served as treasurer of the Washington State Association of Future Farmers of America. Lester was a graduate of Washington State College. Following graduation Lester served in the U.S. Army during, serving as an officer with the 8th Armored Division in the European Theatre. Following the war he returned to Washington State and completed his Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics. Lester was active in campus affairs at W.S.U., serving as president of the Crimson Circle, his junior class, the college YMCA, the Acacia Fraternity of which he maintained an active roll later in life as well. Among his other involvements were the Athletic Council, Student Activities Committee as well as the All-Ag Club. Lester married Mildred "Millie" Swales in Pullman, WA on June 4, 1949. They made their home in Soap Lake and Colville, WA where Lester served as an Extension Officer. The family returned to Pullman in 1964 where Lester continued his career in agriculture and education at W.S.U. until his retirement, following which he and Millie moved to the lake home at Hope, ID. Lester served as a track official at WSU and remained active in the Acacia Fraternity through the years. Lester and Mille were avid Bridge players, participating in several area bridge clubs. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine, as well as the Pullman Kiwanis Club and Simpson United Methodist Church. Lester loved the Cougars, attending all types of sporting events including football and basketball. He was always willing to give back to the W.S.U. Community of himself and his time. Following Millie's death in 1998, Lester married his high school friend Helen Barron. Together they spent time in both Santa Barbara, CA and Pullman. Lester was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all. Lester is survived by his wife Helen; five daughters Kim Nygreen, Leslie Gibson, Pam Gregory, Debbie Watson and Hosanna Becket; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides his first wife Millie, Lester is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, April 15, 2011 at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman. Rev. Todd Scranton will officiate. Loren loved farming and taking care of the land. Maria Gonzalez Elzea of Othello, died Monday April 11, 2011, at her home with her family at her side., Maria was born on April 9, 1924, in Bonneville, Wyoming, to Manuel and Antonia (Garcia) Gonzalez. Her family worked on farms, following the harvest through the western United States. They settled in Peidras Negras Coahulia, MX, working the harvest spring through summer and returning home fall and winter. Maria met Jorge Sanchez in Eagle Pass, TX. They married in 1940. In 1945, they settled in Mabton, WA. Jorge died in 1959. Maria moved to Othello in 1964. There she went to work for Chef Ready as a laborer. She married Charlie Elzea in 1967. Maria worked for Chef Ready for several years then went to work for Western Cold Store. In 1982, Maria's daughter Josephine passed away and Maria quit work to raise her children., Maria was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was known for her cooking, she always made 'Granny's tamales' for the church to sell at the fair, often selling out her product before anyone else's. She was an avid Gardner growing roses and vegetables for many to enjoy. She canned much of what she grew as well as fruits, juices and meats. Maria loved being in the kitchen, when she would visit her family she would take over their kitchen and cook for everyone. |

Mark Steven Perry, passed away at the age of 51 after a courageous 11 month battle with cancer on April 7, 2011 at Holy Family Hospital. He is survived by wife, Glenda, and children, Alicia and Brad, all of Spokane, WA, as well as sister, Linda Tedsen, of Grants Pass, OR. He was born on August 28, 1959. He was preceded in death by parents, Nicholas and Barbara. Mark grew up in Crescent City, CA, graduating from Del Norte County High in 1977. She was loving, fun, humorous, devoted, smart and beautiful., She created a wonderful life for herself and was only 46 years old when she gracefully surrendered to breast cancer which she bravely battled for 18 months. Pamela never once complained and she stepped up to the challenge with determination and did what she always did. She prepared herself and did her best. Pamela Sue West, 46, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011., She was born to Darrel West (deceased) and his wife, Sue, on August 15, 1964 in Eureka, CA. She was the third daughter of four., She lived on the west coast in northern locations during her short life. She preferred the Mount Vernon area as her sales territory with a large corporate company based in Seattle., She attended grade school in Grants Pass, Oregon and high school in Renton, WA., She was giving and enjoyed helping her niece and nephews., Pamela struggled with breast cancer treatments and surgery for 18 months and succumbed to lung cancer secondary to a brain tumor that took her young life. She loved listening to her favorite music, and she was very fashionable and full of class. She was very loved by her family and friends and will be very missed by those lucky enough to have known her. Lost his battle with lung cancer on April 8 in his home at Medical Lake with his family by his side., He was born on June 7, 1937, in the home of his parents, Dick and Alice Enright, in Deer Park. He attended school in Deer Park and graduated from Deer Park High School in 1955. In 1955, he began his college career at Eastern Washington University while raising a family and graduated in 1966 with a degree in Sociology., He married in 1958 to Carla (now deceased) and together they had two children. They divorced in 1983 and he remarried to Barbara, who had three daughters., He also spent time working at Eastern State Hospital at Medical Lake as a hospital attendant, auto driver, watchman, and watchman supervisor while attending college. He was also the union rep for the hospital., He had a 33-year career in the field of criminal justice. His favorite job was being a parole officer on the streets. He also worked in the Headquarters Office in Olympia and Pine Lodge Corrections Center at Medical Lake as a Correctional Program Manager. He retired from the Department of Corrections in December 1988., Bob served in the, Reserves from 1955-63., He belonged to the Key Club while in high school and is a member of the Medical Lake Kiwanis Club. He also volunteered for the Espanola/Medical Lake SCOPE for the past five years. He was also involved with the Medical Lake Food Bank, picking up food at Second Harvest and transporting it to the Medical Lake Food Bank., For many years he was involved in an "Over 40" softball league in Medical Lake. He loved sports, tennis, bowling, baseball and football and enjoyed all his contacts with the "Fantasy Football" guys., He loved his family and activities with the kids and grandkids and always enjoyed having everyone over to his house during the holidays., He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Larry (Teri) Enright; daughter, Linda (Ken) Ross; and stepdaughters, Susan (Randy) Searcy, Lori Walters and Sandra Walters. He had 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren., He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Alice Enright; a sister, Margaret Pluid; a niece, Pam Kellogg; and ex-wife, Carla Enright., Funeral services honoring Mr. Enright will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2011, in Deer Park at the Open Door Congregational Church with the Rev. Ruth passed away on April 10, 2011 at Valley General Hospital. She was born in Spangle, WA on November 24, 1924 to Harry E. Hill and Verna Spangle Hill and was raised there. She is also a descendent of William Spangle who helped form the Township of Spangle, WA. Ruth graduated from Spangle High School in 1942 where she was active in drama and band where she played the violin. She spent many hours working and cooking for the men at harvest time. Ruth moved to Spokane Valley in 1960, and became the manager of the kitchen at Havermale Junior High. Later she went on to help open and manage the cafeteria at the first K-Mart to come to Spokane on Sprague Avenue. She then went on to become a Bookkeeper for Joe K. Staley Oil Company in Greenacres then retiring from consolidation Irrigation District as their Bookkeeper. Ruth had two children; Gloria Hengen-Vail of Rockford, WA and Gregory John Hengen deceased in March of 1973. Three grandchildren; Greg Vail, Rockford, WA, Erin Brewer and husband James; great granddaughter Peyton Brewer and Janel Bingman, husband and family, Keith, Amber and Michael of Clarkston, WA., Ruth stayed active in many organizations such as Past Noble Grand, Spangle Rebecca Lodge-Past Matron, Magnolia Chapter O.E.S. Millwood, WA, Bandito's Club for the Shriners. Her favorite hobbies were cooking, crafts and crocheting. She crocheted numerous afghans over the years and later in life did volunteer work at the Veterans Hospital in Spokane. Ruth crocheted 22 lap blankets and donated them to the Veterans there. Ruth also leaves behind a brother; Elton Hill, wife Diane of Malden, WA. Sisters; Betty May Fulton, Velma Marion, Billie Bentley who are deceased., At her request no services will be held. She will be taken back home and placed on the Family Plot at the Spangle Cemetery in Spangle, WA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Sam KUTOFF Sam Kutoff, age 89, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2011. Born and raised in Seattle, Sam graduated from Garfield High School in 1940. After returning from WWII, he worked for his sister, Ruth, at her bakery and then for Safeway for many years. Sam loved playing any type of card game - from poker to pinochle and was an excellent bridge player. He was an avid bowler for most of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his extended family and especially his children and grandchildren. Sam lived in Montlake for 53 years. He was preceded in death by two loving and devoted women: his first wife, Annette "Sweetie" Rosenthal and his second wife, Betty Cohen. After the death of his second wife, he enjoyed several years living at the Summit. His family would like to thank the staff at Kline Galland Home for the compassionate care he received while a resident there. Sam is survived by his children: Mickey (Fran) Kutoff of Seattle, Shirley (Terry) Neff of Allentown, PA, grandchildren: Abby, Brian, Jaimie, Matt and his brother, Label. Sandra ENG Sandra Eng,78, passed on April 7, 2011 in Seattle, WA. Sandra was born on November 2, 1933 in Toisan village in Canton, China. She was born to Thomas T. Chinn, and Fong Ten Ng. She attended Broadway High School, and later married Wai C. Eng in Seattle, on June 24, 1954. In Sandra's early years she worked in her father's restaurant, then stayed home to raise her children, but helped at our family business, the Kau Kau Restaurant, as well as the Kau Kau BBQ Market for many years. She also managed the Korea Ginseng Center. She will forever be remembered, and missed, for her delicious cooking, amazing green thumb, and very, very generous heart to those she loved. Sandra was preceded in death by her sister Janet F. Chinn. She is survived by her loving husband Wai C. Eng, of Seattle; son Clifford Eng of Seattle; daughter Lynn Eng Chang (Richard) of Mercer Island; Grandchildren Justin and Kianna Chang of Mercer Island; sister Lori Chinn of New York, NY; and a brother, Ted Chinn of Renton. Thelma was secretary at the RETSIL Veterans' Home, the Puyallup Fair, and she was secretary to the General in charge of the National Guard. She also taught English at a college in Japan. When she was over 70 years old she worked at a clock shop at the Seatac Mall, but she had to lie about her age to get the job. Thelma enjoyed golf, cross stitch, knitting, traveling, walks on the beach with daughter Kay, collecting frogs, creating and collecting porcelain dolls, and reading. She lived in Tacoma, Washington; San Diego, California; Nagasaki, Japan; Whidbey Island, Washington; and several other locations. Thelma loved life and lived it joyfully! Thomas J. Kean, age 97, of Bellingham, formerly of Birch Bay, passed away April 12, 2011, at a Bellingham care center. Tom was born May 21, 1913, in Mount Vernon, WA, to George and Anna (Doolittle) Kean. He married Vivian Vhee Phillips on August 19, 1939 and she preceded him in death on March 13, 1998. He is also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Carol J. Kean. Survivors include his children, Tom (Jan) Kean and his children, Lisa, Laura, and Bryan; Linda (Bob) Gudmundson and their children, Shawna, Patrick, Kate, and Ryan, and Jim Kean and his children, Todd and Trisha; and 18 great grandchildren. OHLAND, Vernon W., Passed away in Spokane, WA on April 10, 2011. He was born on November 25, 1918 in Spokane, WA to Otto and Cereath Ohland. Vern graduated from North Central High School in 1936. Following high school, he joined the Air Force in 1941 where he would serve in, as a tail gunner on a B-26 Marauder seeing action in Germany, Africa and Europe. He was awarded the, , the Silver Star and the Air Medal. In 1946, he married Geraldine (Jeri) Wagner and together they would share 62 years of marriage. The same year he started his career with Spokane County, serving as Spokane County Auditor from 1967 to 1982. He was heavily involved with community organizations such as the Elks, Shriners, Lions Club and American Legion. Vern enjoyed restoring old cars with all his sons and grandsons. Summers were spent at Loon Lake. He will be missed by all who knew him and those who loved him. Vern is survived by three sons, Greg (Gail) Ohland, Kent (Sharon) Ohland, Kevin (Terry) Ohland; four grandsons, Shawn Ohland, Todd Ohland, Kyle Ohland, and Corey Ohland; great-grandson Kameron Scott Ohland, and his four legged friend, Missy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeri, parents, brother Willard Ohland, stepmother Grace Ohland, and his daughter Gretchen in 1955. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N. Government Way in Spokane, WA on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 2 pm. Victor DiPIETRO On Tuesday, April 12, 2011, Victor DiPietro passed away suddenly at his home in Des Moines, WA with his wife, Diana, at his side. Victor was an outstanding and very generous person giving selflessly to many organizations and under-privileged people throughout the world. He was extremely involved with several branches of the military, providing entertainment for the troops to the local professional sporting events in Seattle. He was honored to throw out the first pitch at the Mariners' Fan Appreciation Day in 2009. Victor was born in Kent,WA on July 17, 1934 to Vincenzo and Incoronata DiPietro who preceded him in death. He was the last of three children born. His brother Dominic (Marian) preceded him in death in 1999 and he is survived by his brother Arthur (Violet) DiPietro. He is also survived by his beloved wife, Diana; sons, Vincenzo (Vince) DiPietro, Ty Ribera, Casey (Tiffany) Ribera; grandchildren Hayley and Jaxsyn Ribera; and several nieces and nephews. He took pride in his humble upbringing and dedicated himself to pursue a better life for him and his family, thus making him the generous, loving, honest and moral person he became. He was a wonderful husband, brother, father and grandfather and uncle and a great friend to all who knew him. He will be remembered and loved by so many because of his great listening skills and sense of humor. He conquered his dream of becoming a great golfer and an exceptional pilot. He was the owner of Inco Express, a large transportation firm on the West coast and continued his career with many commercial real estate holdings. Victor was past President of the Washington Trucking Association, member of the Rainier Golf and Country Club in Seattle, Morningside Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA and the Plantation Country Club in LaQuinta, CA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 12:30 p.m. at St Francis of Assisi Church, 15226 21st Avenue, Burien, WA 98166. Reception to follow. DEAN, W. Josephine, Josephine was born in Minneapolis, MN to Rob and Lillyan Hauser. Her father was a pastor at several churches in the Midwest including Forsythe, MT, Wadena, MN and Parshall, ND. She graduated from high school in Parshall. She then worked at the local bank for 11 years as an assistant cashier and as a secretary to the local attorney where she met and married her husband of 53 years, Dr. Orval Dean. He was serving as flight surgeon with the US Air Force in Minneapolis when they married in 1958., Throughout their married life they lived in various locations where Dr. Dean practiced medicine, including Newport, Spokane, Bremerton, WA, and Waverly, OH where he retired in 1994. They then moved back to Colbert, WA to be near most of their extended family., Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, Mattie Frith, and infant daughter, Elizabeth. She is survived by her husband; sons, Phillip A. (Julie) Dean of Saginaw, MI, Gary M. (Bonnie) Dean of Colbert; daughter, Barbara (Marcus) Groffman of Colbert; sister, Fern (Willard) Farrell of Colbert; brother, Roland (Kay) Hauser of Canby, OR; six grandchildren; and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews., Josephine was an accomplished pianist and served in many different churches for 70 years. She loved hymnology and southern gospel music. Her greatest pride and joy was in her children and grandchildren. He was a machinist for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 49 years., Dad was a member of the American Legion Post 34 and was a Post Commander and District Commander, Honor Guard for the Post, a member of the Eagles, and volunteer for the DVA., Dad served in the Air Force during WWII; he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska., Dad married our mother, Evelyn Mogensen, on June 30, 1951. He won her heart doing back flips on skates at the Roller Rink., They are members of the First Lutheran Church in Pasco. Dad was a devoted family man, he loved them all to the fullest. Together the whole family loved to camp, fish, and travel. Their favorite camping spot was Curlew Lake. Pullman resident, passed away April 10, 2011 at Sacred Heart Medical Center from complications of pneumonia. He was 32. "Billy" was born November 26, 1978 in Pullman, Washington to Gary and Beverley Brader Labusohr. He was a special child with a special kind of heart defect and doctors warned he might not live a year -" Billy proved them all wrong and lived a very full life in his 32 years. He graduated from Pullman High School in 2000 where his life was full of friendship and love. Billy absolutely loved bowling and on the youth league was part of a three-man team that won a state bowling tournament. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America, first in Troop 442 and now as part of Troop 460. He was honored to receive Life Member status in scouting. Billy worked for several years at Palouse Industries in Pullman and at the time of his death, he was employed at Rite Aid where he did store stocking and facing of shelves. He was friendly to everyone he met and loved all of his co-workers. Occasionally Billy could be caught "dancing in the aisles" when certain upbeat songs played on the store speakers. He couldn't help himself; he loved music of all kinds. He sang at church and was active in Sunday school at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pullman. He was also a member of the Palouse MOOSE Lodge. Billy loved Cougar basketball, enjoyed doing arts and crafts and was fascinated with anything Harry Potter. He leaves behind a loving family and many dear friends. They include his parents, Gary and Beverley Labusohr of Pullman; two brothers, Thor Osborn, Albuquerque, NM, and J'ean Labusohr, Spokane, WA; a niece, Haley Marie Labusohr, Spokane; maternal grandparents William and Laura Brader of Prosser, WA; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. His paternal grandparents preceded him in death. Memorial Services celebrating Billy's life will be held Monday, April 18th at 2:00 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pullman. A reception will follow the service in the church's social hall. The family suggests memorials to Palouse Industries, the Boy Scouts of America or Emmanuel Baptist Church Sunday school.
